Merry Christmas. We celebrate the birth of our Saviour today. In our celebration we see that God works in a way that was unexpected. If it was expected, we would also expect that the religious leaders in Jerusalem would have understood and followed Jesus. If not at his birth, at least as they saw him in his ministry. We would have seen them respond differently when the Magi came through looking for the birth of the king, instead of just sitting and waiting with Herod.
Today is not about the Saviour we expect or the Saviour we sought out. It is about the Saviour we need. God comes into our world with his immediate presence in a physical way. Changing the way we relate to him. Changing the way we are able to live in this world. Letting go of what we expect, we receive what we need.
What expectation of God in our lives needs to alter so that we can accept that God does not act with us in the ways we expect? Not just toady with the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Think about the way we follow Jesus in our life each day. Looking for a way in which we can each be a better follower of Jesus as we love and serve God; as we love and serve others. Our gift to God is our bringing ourselves, with what we have and who we are.
What can I give him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb.
If I were a wise man, I would do my part.
Yet what I can, I give him,
give him my heart.
Thank you for this message.
I am really enjoying receiving your blog.
God bless you as you lead our church.
